Esther senses that same spirit in Britain's rarest native horse breeds and the wild places they call home, and hopes each photograph and artwork offers a small piece of it back: a moment of calm and an invitation to find your own quiet connection to the wild.
Beneath the Wax
Each piece begins far from the studio, in wild places where semi-wild horses roam, captured through photography and techniques like intentional camera movement, cyanotype, and Van Dyke Brown, shaped by wind, light, and the elements themselves. The image then finds its way to Esther's calm, peaceful studio in Lancashire, where it is layered with beeswax and tree sap, natural materials chosen for the texture, luminosity, and quiet emotion they bring to each surface.

Esther's studio is a quiet retreat in the Pennines, where the wildness of the moor outside gives way to stillness within. Stepping inside offers a moment to slow down, surrounded by original cyanotypes, Van Dyke Brown prints, and photo-encaustic works in every stage of becoming, some newly finished, others still curing, weeks into their own quiet transformation.
Located in Newhey, Lancashire, on the edge of Saddleworth Moor.
