THE PROCESS

01 / PLAN

Your journey begins with a simple inquiry. We'll delve into the unique personality of your horse, discuss your desired artwork size, and explore potential locations for the photoshoot.

Once you've secured your commission with a deposit, we'll embark on a collaborative planning phase. A detailed phone consultation will follow, where we'll delve deeper into your vision. We'll explore your horse's character, discuss your preferred aesthetic (e.g., dramatic, serene, playful), and pinpoint the emotions you wish to evoke in the final artwork.

Based on this insightful conversation, I'll create a comprehensive plan and a visual mood board, meticulously researching ideal locations, color palettes, and the overall artistic direction.

Your Vision, Our Collaboration:

Each commission is a unique and collaborative endeavor. Your input is invaluable throughout the entire process, ensuring that the final artwork truly reflects your love and admiration for your equine companion.

02 / CREATE

Create: A Day Dedicated to Your Horse

On the day of your commission, the focus is entirely on your horse. We'll create a relaxed and enjoyable experience, allowing your horse's unique personality to shine through.

Photography Options:

  • Encaustic Artwork Commissions: We'll capture your horse's spirit with a combination of dynamic liberty shots in a secure field and evocative environmental portraits within your yard.

  • Photography Commissions: Our journey will begin at the stable, where we'll create a series of classic, emotive portraits against a black background using professional lighting. We'll then venture out to a location of your choice – perhaps a beloved field or a place that holds special meaning for you and your horse – to capture their beauty in their natural environment.

03 / REVEAL

Reveal: Unveiling Your Masterpieces

Following the photoshoot, I meticulously edit your images, ensuring each photograph captures the essence of your horse with artistry and precision. This process typically takes two weeks.

I offer flexible viewing options, whether you prefer to view the photographs via a virtual appointment online or in the comfort of your own home. During this viewing, I'll guide you through the collection, helping you select your favorite photographs. You'll also have the opportunity to choose images for an original photo-encaustic artwork, as well as smaller prints to be beautifully presented in my range of handmade archival frames, albums, and wall art.

Throughout the creation of your artwork, I'll maintain open communication, providing regular updates via phone or email, including captivating videos and images that offer a glimpse into the creative process.

Collect: Your Bespoke Collection of Equine Art

Approximately 6-8 weeks later, your exquisite collection of equine art will be ready. Each bespoke piece is crafted to be cherished for a lifetime, its beauty and significance deepening with each passing year.

Your artworks will undergo meticulous quality checks before being carefully signed and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. We offer convenient delivery options, including direct delivery to your home. For added convenience, we can also arrange professional installation of your artworks by experienced craftsmen, ensuring they are displayed to perfection

FAQ

  • My most popular locations where I am commissioned regularly to photograph clients’ horses are Lancashire, Manchester, Cheshire and Yorkshire which is near my studio in the North West Pennines, however, I am happy to travel to other areas of the UK

  • I do have availability for a limited number of international commissions, it is recommended that you book at least 3 - 6 months in advance for international commissions to ensure my availability.

  • Over the last 15 years, I have worked with many horses. All with big personalities, quirks and charms! I love photographing all horses and have lots of patience and I have developed some tricks and tools when working with horses so there’s no need to worry!

  • Our British weather is very unpredictable, I always do a weather check a few days before the commission, if it’s forecast to be wet and muddy then I always recommend that with reschedule the photography commission. If we suddenly have a sudden downpour on the morning of the commission and it looks like it’s here to stay then I always ask my clients to message me to let me know before I set off, and we will reschedule to a sunnier day.

  • I often get clients worried that their yard is not pretty enough, not large enough and not right for a fine art photography commission. Please do not worry, we will have lots of planning conversations, you don’t need large green spaces on your yard to make your photographs beautiful, I have never been to a yard which I am not able to create beautiful photographs. You also have the option to travel with your horse to a special location too if you prefer.

  • Whilst my priority is to create beautiful printed artwork for my clients that they will love for a lifetime, all artworks, albums and prints which are purchased come with digital copies of the photographs.
